Collection Le Jardin

Le Jardin

The inaugural work. Basketry become painting.

Le Jardin is the inaugural work, the one that gave the Maison its name. On a woven wicker frame, paint was laid touch after touch — pink, blue, green, yellow, red — until the wicker forgot it had been wood, and became a painting carried. A yellow leather band underlines the sides. The gilded metal handles open above the clasp. Every face is a different garden; the blue flower of the background answers the free-standing flowers of the front. A piece that holds everything the Collection would go on to unfold.
